Comments can increase by 89%, while likes get 19% more. To be more specific, Sortlist analysed 500 adverts uploaded by non-pet brands to YouTube that featured dogs and cats. These videos had an increase in views of 2,700% compared to the average number of views of others on the brand’s channel.

Of the dog ads they examined, spanning from 2008 to 2021, the increase in views was smaller than for cats. But the number is no less striking: dog ads accounted for 547.6% more views for their brands on YouTube than the average view count for any individual video.

However, the difference in average views does not mean that brands, or users, view dogs less favorably than cats. In fact, this case only applies to advertisements.

Looking at organic social posts, the results are different. 62% of randomly selected brands featured dogs in their organic posts , while 37.9% featured cats.

In the study, organic posts featuring both animals saw a 337.4% increase in likes and a 226.9% increase in comments.
