The much-vaunted autonomous driving technology finally seems to be taking off (although the technology will first have to navigate a long list of regulations). Amazon is currently testing a fleet of "robotaxis" on public roads in the state of California .
In the test implemented by the e-commerce giant, the "robotaxis" transport Amazon's own employees as passengers (with the hope that in the not-too-distant future these autonomous vehicles can be made available to the general public).
The company led by Andy Jassy has been investing very aggressively in auton finland number data omous driving for years and in 2020 it acquired Zoox , a startup specializing in this technology, for $1.3 billion.
In a test conducted on February 11, Amazon's robo-taxis successfully drove autonomously between two Zoox buildings about a mile apart in Foster City, California.
The tests are part of the launch of a free shuttle service for Zoox employees that will help Amazon refine its self-driving technology.
