On June 25, the time had finally come. MeasureCamp Berlin 2022 opened its doors. More specifically, the SumUp premises near Ostbahnhof opened their doors, which are sponsoring this year's Digital Analytics (Un) conference .
The word “unconference” plays an important role here:
The event is designed by the participants for the participants. Therefore, neither the speakers nor the session topics are known in advance. Everyone has the opportunity to prepare a topic and organize a session. The topics will then be announced via a board at the beginning of the unconference:
measurecamp_board
The sessions are held in English and classified by level (beginner/advanced), poland phone number data type (discussion/presentation) and focus (business/tech).
In the following, we (as MeasureCamp first-years) would like to present to you some of our personal highlights and briefly summarize them.
GA4/GTAG Data Capture Alternatives
Markus Baersch's session focused on alternatives to Google's gtag.js file. This file is crucial for tracking with GA4, among other things, but has several disadvantages, including:
large and complex (more than you need)
can be blocked by browsers
does not allow control over functionalities such as the definition of “engaged sessions”
Measurement ID cannot be masked
Replacing this monolith proves to be difficult, especially in conjunction with GA4, as several functions need to be replaced. The question arises: are there any viable alternatives to this core component of GA measurement?
In addition to the use of possible alternatives such as Tealium IQ, elbwalker, and JENTIS, Markus particularly emphasizes the DIY approach. While a custom measurement script tailored to specific needs solves the problems mentioned above, it requires effort for creation and further development. Therefore, a decision for or against a self-built solution should be carefully considered, as it carries far-reaching consequences.
