In late 2007, Kav Banof finally got the green light to design the park. Avi Luzia played a central role – as in Goliath – in the design with help and feedback from local skaters . As can be seen in the visualization, the design includes a compact but sophisticated track and a nice bowl befitting a small colony.
After the planning was done, it was time to bring in the construction company. In this case, as in Beliath, with a warm recommendation from us of course, the contractor chose Grindline – a company with teams of skaters who are experts in building concrete skate parks. The company arrived in early August 2008, and are currently finishing construction.
The construction process was particularly fascinating. Except for phone number data spent abroad, I was there at least once a day to help out – whether it was with translation, physical labor, or buying beer – the fuel that drives Grindline. The company did need fuel; they worked 6 days a week from 6:30 to 8:30 at night. Their dedication and professionalism amazed everyone who came to the site to watch the construction.
Due to the tight schedule, Grindline invited the veteran skaters to help with the construction. Thanks to those who helped scrape, paint, grind, and sculpt the slopes in 30-plus degrees and humidity – Yaakov Lador who was there like a plant every day, Uri Naveh, Adida Kabus, Haim Rubinstein, Haim Bar, and Amichai Friedberg (my dear brother who came to visit Israel). Bless you for your dedication to the local scene.
In conclusion, my dream came true after 4 years of hard work – countless hours of phone calls, emails, discussions, and meetings. Much credit goes to the head of the council, Mr. Eli Aboutbol, for his support and assistance throughout the entire process; to Zvika Kanonich from Meko Benof for his relentless energy and positive attitude; to Avi Luzia for planning a smart and luxurious park and for his huge investment in the project; to Grindline and the skaters who came to help with the construction; and to Mr. Oded Turgeman from Zichron Dreams, who has indeed helped make the dreams of many skaters come true.
The project was unique to us skaters
