The film industry, during the Covid-19 pandemic that is now in its second year, is undoubtedly one of the sectors most affected by quarantines, lockdowns and global restrictions.
We conducted a social listening study to find out what is currently happening in the industry and what users think about it.
Cinema and Covid-19
During the second half of March 2020, the pandemic began and Latin America was facing the imminent closure of various services, mainly entertainment, including movie theaters.
From that point until the end of 2020, Variety estimated a loss in the film industry of $32 billion dollars.
Continuing the news line, with Quantico we identified that the mexico phone numbers shared news in the region was generated by the website Cinco Noticias , which narrates the evolution of cinema throughout the decades and how they were affected by different situations.
Measures for the reopening of cinemas in Latin America
Currently, some of the Latin American countries that have opened movie theaters to the public with capacity restrictions are: Argentina (30%), Colombia (35%) and Mexico (30%), while in Chile 50 people are allowed per room.
In Peru, cinemas are allowed to open at 20% capacity, but the National Association of Movie Theaters ( ANASACI) is asking the government to allow 40% capacity in addition to the sale of confectionery.

But what do the conversations regarding the film industry in Latin America say during the development of Covid-19? We tell you:
During the period of analysis with our social listening platform, we detected 15K conversations around only the terms of opening and reopening of cinemas in the region. 53% of the interactions had negative sentiment, 31% were neutral and finally 16% had positive sentiment.
